Our Arts Community
The Marlborough creative and performing arts community boasts a wealth of talent, steeped in rich history and tradition. From the country's longest-running brass band to our acclaimed musical theatre organisation and a myriad of arts groups and individual artists, the region thrives with artistic expression.
The Trust is deeply committed to nurturing the local community theatre scene. Through our Community Good and Subsidy Programme, we provide substantial support, totalling more than $300,000 in FY 2022-23. This initiative ensures that not-for-profit groups have access to our venue, which would otherwise be financially prohibitive. We aim to cultivate an inclusive environment where creativity flourishes and all voices are heard.
Moreover, we're actively revitalizing our venue, with a special focus on the Anderson Theatre and the Whitehaven Wine Room, transforming it into a vibrant creative and performing arts hub. Through collaborative efforts with local arts groups, artists, and educators, we've launched the Creative Arts Access Programme which provides arts programmes that serve youth, older people, and Māori and Pasifika groups. We're proud to acknowledge the generous support of Rātā Foundation in making this programme possible.
In partnership with the Marlborough Youth Council, we're proud to champion the Youth Performing Arts Theatre Fund. This initiative has an available contestable fund of $10,000+GST per year to help cover venue and production costs for theatre events catered to or created by young people. Furthermore, the Fulton Foundation shares our dedication to supporting and enhancing theatre arts in Marlborough. The foundation provides funding to local arts groups to help meet their venue and production costs when using the theatre.
